Royal Roads University is the home of Hatley Castle with its splendid gardens, Japanese, Italian and roses. It is surrounded by a national historical park with thousands of paths that weave in all the ancient protected forests.
Hatley Castle was built by the coal magnate James Dunsmuir in 1908. From 1941 until 1943 the Castle served as a dorm room and cafeteria for Cadets and the Royal Roads Military College staff officers.
The castle is now the administrative center of the Royal Roads University, which is recognized for its innovative model of learning and cutting edge programs designed for professionals and aspiring.
The beautiful buildings and gardens are a national historic site known as Hatley Park. Visit the gardens, the castle, the museum and stunning gift shop are open every day from 10: 00-04: 00.
