Pernstejn Castle (Czech Republic)

The exceptionally well-preserved medieval castle was the basis of the lords of Pernštejn. The simple original plan of the castle is lost in the tangle of successive reconstructions. However, the late Gothic and early Renaissance form of the castle was not affected by further reconstructions and is a unique document of the transformation of a medieval fortress into a more luxurious Renaissance residence. The architectural composition of the castle building can be seen, where the visitor follows the history and development of the residence from a simple castle through a late Gothic fortress, a Renaissance palace, a Baroque, Rococo and Classicist residence up to the Romanticism of the 19th century.
