Restormel Castle (England)

Cornwall     See list of castles in Inghilterra

Standing in ruins in the beautiful countryside, Restormel is one of the most remarkable castles in Britain. The present circular structure, built at the end of the 13th century, was a luxurious retreat for its medieval owners and was visited twice by Edward, the Black Prince. The castle offers fantastic views of the Fowey River valley and is a place favorite for picnics, with beautiful spring flowers and plants all year round.

Today the remains of the castle rooms reveal clues to its past grandeur. Large fireplaces, tall windows and the Great Room, used for meetings, give an idea of the once opulent setting. One of the highlights of the castle is the wall that surrounds the interior of the keep, where you can imagine the life of the castle that rages under you centuries ago. Climb the stone staircase from the courtyard and you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside.
