The canton of Châteauneuf benefits from an exceptional heritage. This summer, discover its majestic atypical castles from their architecture or their history. Some have hosted high personalities, even real ones. Today, the castle of Combreux.
It was rebuilt on a 16th century building, between 1887 and 1905 in the neo-medieval style. If you do not know the exact date of construction of the original building, it is known that it was promised in 1108 by King Louis VI, known as Le Gros.
Several great lords settled there
Several great men, whose names are engraved in the antechamber, have succeeded in one of them, including a well-known Lancelot de la Taille. The same that remained in the castle of Jarnonce, in Vitry-aux-Loges.
There was also Guy de Senlis de la Tour who became its owner in 1124, up to the family of La Rochefoucauld, which still holds it. It is the latter family that will undertake a total transformation of the premises.
Thus, a set of municipalities, consisting of large stables, apartments and pavilions to accommodate the staff, is built.
Build an additional plan
The building will also be modified with the creation of an additional floor decorated in neo-Gothic style. Often reworked, this beautiful jewel has kept its origins, an ancient massive and stocky tower, recognizable by the patina of time among more recent buildings.
