Lindos Castle (Greece)

The Castle in the city of Lindos, located about 50 km from the city of Rhodes in a deeply mountainous territory and very rich in forests. The name comes from the fact that the hill once stood a temple dedicated to Athena Lindia, built in the fourth century BC

The top of the hill is 116 meters above sea level, located overhanging below the Acropolis. Many were the archaeological remains found in the area. But we will not find only the remains of the Greek era, but also the valuable monuments dating from the Middle Ages, such as the castle of the Knights of Rhodes, built in the fourteenth and then heavily restored in the Italian occupation during the first half of the twentieth century. A very interesting church of the Byzantine era also enriches the complex remains dating back to the early centuries of Christianity, while a series of columns made in the third century BC complement the colorful historical picture with fragments from the Hellenistic period: it is the remains of an ancient porch, or Stoa, dating back to the Greek presence on the island.
