Muider Castle (Holland)

Located in Muiden to the east of Amsterdam, Amsterdam Castle Muiderslot’s legacy dates all the way back to 1280 when Count Floris V commissioned the construction of a stone fortress on the grounds. Part of the UNESCO-listed Defence Line of Amsterdam, the enchanting castle and gardens are a sure-fire hit with visitors of all ages.

Fairy tale castle & gardens
Given its drawbridge, five towers, moat and battlements, it will probably come as no surprise that the castle and grounds have been used in several TV shows set in the Middle Ages. Many of the castles chambers have been restored to reflect the splendour that its owners enjoyed during the Dutch Golden Age.

Medieval family fun

A guided tour of the castle is included in the entrance price, introducing visitors to the castle’s rich history. Several walking routes are laid out around the grounds and the castle regularly organises special activities for younger visitors, including a special guided tour on Wednesday afternoons. Also look out for the falconer and his birds of prey, on the grounds daily between April and the end of October.
