Cimbergo Castle (Italy)
Lombardy See list of castles in Italia
In a spectacular position just above the valley of the Re stream, the Cimbergo Castle stands on a steep hill overlooking the small town in Val Camonica, in the province of Brescia.
Probably built before the 13th century, it belonged to the counts of Lodrone and, according to the chronicles, was demolished by Bernabò Visconti in 1363. The castle, with an irregular pentagonal plan, was certainly at the center of many clashes between Camuni, Guelphs and Ghibellines. Today, parts of the high crenellated walls, the vaulted opening with pointed arch and some windows remain.
