Boccale Castle (Italy)

The Boccale Castle is located in Livorno, south of the Antignano district, along the road to Quercianella, a short distance from the Torre di Calafuria and the Castello Sonnino. The castle can not be visited and dates back to the second half of the nineteenth century, when it was built over a Medicean tower of 1595.
It was one of the many sighting towers that guarded the coast in a complex defense system. Each, in direct visual connection with the neighbor, was in charge of reporting the dangers that came from the sea.
