Lower castle of Marostica (Italy)
Veneto See list of castles in Italia
Built in the XIV in the form of a castle enclosure, similar to the Lombard and Verona fortified palaces, it was assigned to the District Rector for fiscal control of businesses.
From the 16th century it underwent a series of works of maintenance and embellishment, giving it the title of Palazzo Pretorio.
In January 1934, the restoration of all the walls and the two castles was financed; the sum granted was € 320,000. This served to give the inferior castle its original features: the original appearance was restored and numerous frescoes were brought back to light, the internal buildings were demolished and the lower portico, the upper loggia and the staircase leading to it were made. The original doors and windows were also reconstituted, following the ancient traces.
In 1997 the Castle was subjected to a new restoration, necessary due to the invasion of herbs on the battlements and on the tower, of the grayness due to smog and exfoliation of the materials.
The restoration that took place between 2001 and 2006 completely returned the castle to visitors.
