Easily accessible by car and an hour and twenty minute ride, the Orava Castle is one of the most significant places of Slovakia. Built in 1241 where once stood wooden fortifications, over the centuries has been characterized first by the Romanesque style, then the Gothic until its current architecture Renaissance and neo gothic dating back to 1611.
The structure, which stands 112 meters high and overlooking sheer how it was built on a cliff, is the dynamic of the large number of buildings that make it up and follows the shape of the rock on which it stands: fortifications and towers surround the curious visitor who goes to the discovery of the site as a fleneur.
There are several museum exhibitions that you can enjoy: the archaeological exhibition on the origins of the settlement to the Natural History until air ethnographic exhibition. In summer you can make a night tour enlivened by theatrical performances.
The Orava Castle was used in 1922 as a setting of the silent film Nosferatu, directed by the great director Murnau.
