Colomares Castle (Spain)

The Castillo de Colomares is located in Benalmádena, province of Málaga. An impressive modern work built between 1987 and 1994 by Dr. Esteban Martín and two assistants. Dr. Esteban was a surgeon in love with history and art who, at the end of the last century, left the scalpel to build a monument in homage to Christopher Columbus and the Discovery of America.

For more than 15 years this Doctor was taken for crazy, fought like Quixote against the mills, and dedicated all his fortune (he ended up almost ruined) to build this great monument.

At the time that he ran out of funds to continue with his work, he had to ask for help from several institutions, but nobody believed in him and nobody supported him; He even wrote letters to the King of Spain asking for help without getting an answer, an attitude that the Doctor never understood.

Even if it's just a recreation, the visit is worth it. For only 2.- € we will enjoy this original work of art walking among gardens, flowers and fountains. The views of the Mediterranean and its surroundings from Castillo are exceptional. The castle is open from Sunday to Sunday. Without a doubt it is a place that deserves a visit.
