Castile and León See list of castles in Spagna
In the tenth century there is a small settlement around a Muslim tower, which will be the base of the castle that was built in the XIII-XIV centuries, and supplemented in the XV and XVI centuries. It belonged to several noble families, such as Bravo de Laguna, Saravia, Ríos, whose shields still remain in the building. For long periods, it was the residence of Carlos II and Felipe V. A current plaque placed at the entrance reminds us that this castle was the birthplace of Leonor, the wife and muse of Antonio Machado. In addition, it inspired the romantic poet Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer to write some of his famous Legends.
