Kaysersberg Castle (France)
Alsace See list of castles in Francia
Once an imperial city, Kaysersberg is home to its impressive imperial castle, built around 1200 to control the access routes from Lorraine. This village played a crucial strategic role during the conflict between the Empire and the Dukes of Lorraine. The castle is famous for its cylindrical keep, one of the oldest in Alsace, with walls up to 4 meters thick, a true historical curiosity.
Within the fortified walls, under the protection of the secret chamber, you’ll find a noble residence with elegant pointed-arch windows. Don't miss the opportunity to climb the 122-step staircase to enjoy a breathtaking view of Kaysersberg, the valley entrance, the vineyards, and, on clear days, the Black Forest in Germany. From the historic center, two staircases and a path through the vineyards lead to the castle ruins.
