Aymavilles Castle (Italy)
Aosta Valley See list of castles in Italia
Built on a hill at the entrance of the Cogne valley, the castle of Aymavilles is easily recognizable for its elegant structure: four imposing circular towers, crowned with battlements, are placed at the corners of the central building, almost to protect it.
The castle, whose origin dates back to the twelfth century, has undergone massive alterations over the centuries, gradually abandoning the initial defensive function to become in the eighteenth century a refined mansion, surrounded by a large park.
In 1970 the complex was sold to the regional administration, which carried out important restoration and renovation of the interiors and exteriors, thus highlighting the eighteenth-century characteristics of the dwelling, which anticipated the Rococo style in Valle d'Aosta. Today the manor presents itself with renewed splendor, strongly characterized by the double presence of imposing medieval towers and polished eighteenth-century surfaces.
