Hunyad Castle (Romania)
Transylvania See list of castles in Romania
The Corvin Castle, the characteristic Gothic-Renaissance style, stands on a rocky plateau near the Transylvanian city of Hunedoara. It was built in the fifteenth century to house the noble House of Hunyadi and, according to tradition, it was here that Vlad III was imprisoned for 7 years by Mátyás Hunyadi, King of Hungary best known in Italy under the name of Matthias Corvinus. Its massive defense towers, the pointed spiers, protective moat, crenellated walls, drawbridges and the beautiful inner rooms give this monument looks gloomy and solemn, which made it suitable as a location for many films.
