Forchtenstein Castle (Austria)
Burgenland See list of castles in Austria
The impressive complex is one of the most important symbols of Burgenland. Built in the early fourteenth century, this fortification has been able to resist and survive the Turkish invasion of 1529 besieging Vienna and in 1622 took possession of the Esterházy princes who completely restored the building giving it its present appearance.
The splendid frescoes on the walls dell'Innenhof - the courtyard - are to be considered among the largest in the north of the Alps. The castle has been assigned the name of "Tresor der Esterházy", safe Esterhazy, as it guards the family objects very precious as the pieces of the Baroque Room of the treasures, and collections of pieces from the spoils of military campaigns.
