Ballyportry Castle (Ireland)

Ballyportry Castle was one of a series of castles and churches built by the O'Briens, medieval Gaelic aristocrats in Ireland who held most of Clare's land in the 15th century.
Ballyportry was enjoyed by the O'Briens for just over a century before the 1603 defeat of Gaelic Ireland at the Battle of Kinsale. The fortunes of Irish Gaelic leaders continued to decline throughout the 17th century until they reached their nadir with the 1691 Treaty of Limerick, which marked the very end of Gaelic Ireland.
