The Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the symbols of Bavaria and of Germany in the world. It 'a fairy tale castle par excellence, built by the "fairytale king" Ludwig II (1845-1886) in 1869 on the stage designer Christian Jank project. The idea to build it in the style of the old German feudal residences came to the monarch after remaining almost struck by a visit in 1867 to the medieval fortress of Wartburg in Thuringia.
