Burg Runkel (Germany)
Hesse See list of castles in Germania
The medieval castle Runkel, first mentioned in 1159, still determines today the cityscape of Runkel.
On steep, vertically falling rocks in the midst of the lovely Lahn valley, suddenly and unexpectedly rise the mighty fortified towers of the castle Runkel. Even today an example of an early medieval defensive construction, the viewer from the Lahn side appears to be impregnable.
Ahnensaal, old paintings, old furniture, weapons and equipment, vaults with large press (here was centuries ago the Runkeler red pressed), torture chamber, old brick mouthpieces, etc.
