Pieskowa Skała (Poland)
Lesser Poland Voivodeship See list of castles in Polonia
On the crest of the Prądnik river valley stands one of the most beautiful castles in Poland.
It was built by order of King Kazimierz Wielki. Later it became the property of the Szafraniec family. He underwent changes to become a residence. A porticoed courtyard and a picturesque logi- cal (open gallery) have been added. Mikołaj Zebrzydowski, another owner of the castle, made further changes transforming it into a stronghold with bastions. Despite many fires that hit the castle, it has survived until our times almost unchanged. Today it houses a museum of historical interiors - a section of the Wawel Royal Castle Museum. The best view of Pieskowa Skała comes from the valley below the castle, where a rock-like club is called the "Club of Hercules".
