The Cantacuzino Castle in Bușteni, of great architectural, historical, documentary and artistic value, was built in 1911 at the request of Prince Gheorghe Grigore Cantacuzino (Nababul), he was minister of Romania between 1899-1900, 1904-1907.
The castle, built in a neo-Romanesque style, evokes a park where you can stroll through the waterfall, where a cave is located. The building was built on the ground and was designed by architect Grigore Cercaz and was built on 3148 square meters.
The decorative repertoire gives the interior a pronounced romantic character. Stained glass windows, stuccoed marbles, shelves, ceilings with exposed beams and paintings, balustrades in wood, stone or wrought iron, iron cast in bronze and richly decorated, represent a mastery of the artistic craft. These are made with Albești tiles, decorate with polychrome mosaics, implied with a rustic atmosphere, sporting value in the buildings.
The castle has a collection of heraldry representing the coats of arms of imprisoned noble families with the Cantacuzinos and a frieze of votive paintings with the illustrious Cantacuzino family of the mountain branch.
Many scenes of the famous TV series "Wednesday" made by Netflix were filmed in the castle. This is where all exterior shots of the Nervermore school were filmed. The production slightly modified the roof of the castle with special effects, to make it more gothic, and thus fit perfectly with the atmosphere of the series.
The series was filmed from September 2021 to March 2022, in the middle of winter, in this Eastern European country where temperatures drop significantly during this period. The weather has often caused problems and the film crews have had to deal with it.
