The unconquerable Königstein Fortress stands on the 13 football fields large rock plateau of Table Mountain. More than 50 buildings and green spaces invite you to take a tour of life on the fortress.
Because of its unique location, the Königstein Fortress was a popular destination for the Saxon court for imposing celebrations with high-ranking guests. In times of political need, the Saxon state treasure, but also the porcelain inventor Johann Friedrich Böttger, was brought to safety behind its secure walls. The dungeons became known as the »Saxon Bastille«. Numerous well-known prisoners languished here, such as the social democrat August Bebel and writer Frank Wedekind. Numerous superlatives such as the first Saxon garrison church, the giant wine barrel of August the Strong or the deepest fountain in Saxony, diverse exhibitions, original gastronomic experiences and a unique panoramic view of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains lure you up to the indomitable castle.
